Free tile box calculator

Tile Calculator

Estimate tile for floors or walls in multiple rooms. Compare tile pieces and whole boxes using carton coverage, dimensions, layout waste and price clearly.

Choose floors or walls, add your carton values and layout extra, then see both a loose-tile estimate and a whole-box shopping amount.

Step 1

Add your rooms

Use the widest length and width. Your rooms stay on this device when you switch tools.

Step 2

Describe your tile

Use the carton values. Pattern buttons only suggest a waste percentage; you can change it.

Simple math, visible assumptions

How the tile estimate is calculated

Floor mode uses length multiplied by width. Wall mode uses room perimeter multiplied by height, less the standard openings you enter. The selected waste percentage is added to that area.

The calculator checks both carton square-foot coverage and the area of each tile multiplied by tiles per box. If those inputs disagree, it warns you and uses the larger box requirement.

  1. Choose whether you are tiling floors or walls and measure every area.
  2. Pick a layout starter, then adjust waste for your actual plan.
  3. Copy coverage, tile dimensions and pieces per box from the carton.
  4. Dry-plan the layout and follow the tile and setting-material instructions before buying.

What this estimate can—and cannot—tell you

It measures quantity

The calculator turns your dimensions and package values into a rounded shopping amount.

It does not inspect the room

It cannot see moisture, substrate damage, lead, asbestos, uneven walls or installation obstacles.

The product label wins

Coverage, batch matching, preparation and installation instructions from the chosen product come first.

Questions people ask

Tile Calculator FAQ

How does the tile calculator work?

It measures the selected floor or wall areas, adds your layout-waste percentage, and compares the number of boxes needed from carton coverage with the number needed from tile dimensions and tiles per box.

How much extra tile should I buy?

The calculator offers editable starters of 10% for straight layouts, 15% for diagonal layouts and 20% for herringbone. These are planning suggestions, not guarantees. Complex rooms, pattern matching, breakage and future repairs may need a different amount.

Can I use this for wall tile?

Yes. Choose Walls and enter room height plus any doors and windows. The result estimates the room perimeter wall area and subtracts the entered openings.

Why is there a package mismatch warning?

It appears when the carton coverage does not closely match tile width, length and tiles per box. Check all carton values. To avoid underestimating, the calculator uses the box count that requires more material.
